Good News For Gulf Migrant Workers

The central government is taking steps to bring back the Indians who have been stranded in Gulf countries due to lockdown. To done this government has brought Air India and Indian Navy into the scene. The Center estimates that there are up to 10 million Indians in various Gulf countries. It has asked the states to provide the exact information about the laborers. The central government has also ordered Air India and the Indian Navy to be ready to evacuate Indians from Gulf countries.

The two companies have been asked by the government to give their plans on how many people they can move. The Indian Navy said it would deploy three of its navy ships to the Gulf countries. Air India Company said we have 500 flights ready to migrant the gulf workers. The evacuation process is likely to begin next month on May 3.

However, These ships and flights will be modified such that they can bring back the migrant workers with social distancing. One Navy officer said,” We don’t want a situation like in the US and French Navy where the virus spread like wildfire. We make ensure that everyone who comes on board is Covid-negative and is in a position to undertake sea journey.”
