Government Withdraws All Special Status Cases
YS Jagan led the YSRCP government to withdraw all Special Status Cases in Andhra Pradesh. Several cases are filed against the protesters on AP Special Status agitation during past government. On Friday the government of AP has issued G.O number 773 informing the Director-General of Police (DGP) Damodar Goutam Sawang that Home Ministry is leaving all the cases recorded earlier. The GO also mentioned the DGP to instruct advocates to file a petition for withdrawal in the concerned courts.
On 26 January 2017, activists staged silent protests in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Tirupati, Nellore, Anantapur, Kakinada, Rajamundry and other places across the state. Mainly youths and students participated in the protests. Prior to the day of protest, the AP Government has issued prohibitory orders. Police arrested a large number of protesters across the state for violating the order.
