Union health minister Harsh Vardhan will head the 34-member World Health Organization (WHO) executive committee on May 22, officials said on Tuesday. Harsh Vardhan, who is at the lead of India’s fight against the coronavirus Covid-19, will succeed Dr. Hiroki Nagadani of Japan as WHO Executive Board Chairman.
WHO on Tuesday signed a plan to nominate a candidate from India as the head of the WHO’s executive committee. Harsh Vardhan’s acceptance of a prominent position is nothing more than a formality, which decided in May 2019. Also, India’s candidate would be elected to the executive committee for a three-year term. The WHO Executive Board chair held annually in regional committees.
Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare from India, selected as the WHO Executive Board Chairman of the World Health Organization’s Board of Governors. He is due to take office on the 22nd of this month.
