In order to curb violence against health and frontline workers, the Central Government on Wednesday, 22 April brought an ordinance. There will be imprisonment up to 7 years for attacking medical workers as Union Minister said.
Addressing the press, the Union minister said they would act “tough” against those who would attack the frontline health workers. He further added,” The Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 has been amended for the crimes against health workers as a non-bailable offense”. Also, an investigation will be done in 30 days with a penalized amount of Rs.50,000 to Rs 2 lakhs.
If the damage has done to the properties of healthcare workers, twice the market value of the damaged property to be charged as compensation. Not only this but also imprisonment up to 7 years for attacking medical workers as Mr. Javdekar said.
