BJP Government led by Narendra Modi made history, the triple talaq bill today cleared Rajya Sabha hurdle. Put to vote after a lengthy debate, the triple talaq bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha with 99 to 84 votes. The Bill outlawing Triple Talaq was on Tuesday passed in the Rajya Sabha.
The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019, was tabled in the upper house for debate and passage by Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, who said that though the practice had been banned in many Islamic countries, India had not done so despite being a secular nation.
The Supreme Court had declared the practice of instant triple talaq unconstitutional and a divorce pronounced by uttering talaq three times in one sitting void and illegal.
The Bill, which outlaw the practice of instant divorce among the Muslim community, the bill has already been passed by the Lok Sabha.
